Like most North Americans I emerge from multiple cultures. I was born, raised, and live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, but my parents came from the Netherlands as children (dad from Friesland, mom from Groeningen). So I think of myself as a Canadian who is also shaped by my Dutch heritage. I created this project for the Public Culture class for my Master’s in Intercultural and International Communication at Royal Roads University. I am hoping that it will not end here, but perhaps grow with the help of other Dutch people like me.
When I am not being a student, I am a technical writer who has been writing professionally for over 15 years. I work with all sorts of clients creating and managing multiple training and procedural projects .I also teach technical writing in the Bachelor of Communication Studies program at Grant MacEwan University.
I am not just interested in my own heritage, but in all cultures and countries. In my spare time, I find as many ways as possible to travel the world.
I’ve been blogging for a while about my travels, my Master’s program, and my imminent 40th birthday.
A wonderful cyber cruise – thank you Annette! I am going to try smashing something else with my potatoes – maybe even kale!
Thanks Pamela! I am going to be adding a recipe for hutspot, or smashing carrots and potatoes tomorrow. I have a date with another couple of Dutch folk tonight.
